Dansk: Illustrationen viser fremkomsten af Månens faser. Øverst ses et udsnit af Jordens bane omkring Solen samt ni positioner af Månen i den kredsløb omkring Jorden gennem en måned. Nederst vises Månens udseende set fra Jorden svarende til de ni positioner, og de forskellige faser er navngivet. Den lille grønne sektor ved den sidste position viser, hvor meget retningen til Solen har ændret sig i løbet af måneden.
Størrelsen af Jorden og Månen er stærkt overdrevet og afstanden mellem dem stærkt underdrevet. Deutsch: Die Abbildung zeigt die Entstehung der Mondphasen. Oben ist ein Ausschnitt der Erdumlaufbahn um die Sonne sowie neun Positionen des Mondes auf seiner Umlaufbahn um die Erde im Verlauf eines Monats dargestellt.
